Description
The curly purl Periwinkle blue is made of a metal wire wound in a very tight spiral, creating a small flexible tube.
How is it used?
Cut it into pieces, then pass a thread and a fine needle through the inside. It is applied onto thick felt or onto fine fabric stretched over a small embroidery hoop. It can also be embroidered over a relief of cord or card. It is used together with jaseron, which outlines the motif.
Purl and jaseron are mainly used in Gold Embroidery (also known as Zardozi in India), a traditional technique widely used for ceremonial costumes, ecclesiastical garments and haute couture. It has recently become more modern and increasingly popular for creating original brooches and embroidered jewellery.
